Tvesa Malik Secures Second Win on WPGT at DLF Golf & Country Club
Tvesa Malik continued her quest to achieve the form she has been diligently pursuing, securing her second victory in her last three starts on the Women’s Pro Golf Tour (WPGT). She clinched the title at the 13th Leg of the Tour held at the DLF Golf & Country Club.
This triumph on her home course marked her third consecutive Top-2 finish in her last three outings. Despite facing challenging conditions on the final day, the 28-year-old, who splits her time between the domestic circuit and the Ladies European Tour (LET), managed to shoot a 1-over 73. Her performance could have been even more dominant if not for a double bogey on the Par-5 18th hole, which reduced her winning margin to eight strokes. She posted rounds of 65-74-73, finishing with a total score of 4-under 212. Jasmine Shekar (73) moved into second place alongside Neha Tripathi (74) and Khushi Khanijau (75), with the trio totalling 4-over 220.
The only under-par round of the day came from Asmitha Sathish, who carded a 1-under 71, finishing tied for fifth with overnight second-placed Ananya Datar, who struggled with an 8-over 80, failing to register any birdies.
Tvesa began the final day with a three-shot lead, and her closest competitors were unable to mount a significant challenge. As the round progressed, Ananya Datar, Neha Tripathi, and Khushi Khanijau dropped critical shots.
While Tvesa bogeyed the sixth hole, she quickly recovered with a birdie on the seventh. She then played steady pars before securing a birdie on the Par-3 16th, ultimately finishing with a double bogey on the 18th.
Jasmine recorded four birdies, all on the back nine, along with three bogeys and a double bogey. Neha, the winner of the 12th Leg, managed one birdie and three bogeys, while Khushi had one birdie and four bogeys. Ananya struggled with six bogeys and a double bogey, failing to register any birdies.
Tvesa’s victory bodes well for her as she prepares for the Hero Women’s Indian Open next month at the same course.
Pranavi Urs, who will soon depart for the Asian Games in China, posted her best score of the week with a 72, securing seventh place at 223. Agrima Manral (74) finished in eighth place with a total of 225. Smriti Bhargava, a member of the Indian Golf Union’s amateur teams in international competitions, claimed eighth place with a final round of 74, accumulating a total of 230.
Kriti Chowhan (81) rounded out the Top-10 with a scorecard of 81.
In the Order of Merit (OOM), Sneha Singh (76), the current leader, had another disappointing week, finishing tied for 11th with Seher Atwal (77), both totaling 232. Sneha maintains her position at the top of the Hero OOM, with Neha in second place and Khushi in third. Tvesa has now moved up to fourth in the OOM rankings.
Tvesa had previously won the Order of Merit in 2018, but since then, she has been competing more on the LET. This season, as she lost her full LET card, she returned to the local Tour to regain her form and confidence. Her two recent victories should greatly contribute to that effort.
The upcoming Leg-14, the final event on the Tour before the Women’s Indian Open next month, will take place at the Delhi Golf Club next week.
