Haryana Dominates the 37th National Games in Golf

Team Haryana emerged as the undisputed champion at the 37th National Games held at the prestigious Delhi Golf Club from November 5 to 9, 2023. The state not only showcased its dominance in numbers, boasting the largest contingent of 16 players, a coach, a team manager, and a mentor but also clinched three medals across four event categories.

Led by a formidable lineup of seasoned professionals and promising amateurs, Team Haryana showcased exceptional skill and determination throughout the tournament. The roster included renowned names such as Diksha Dagar, Vani Kapoor, Gaurika Bishnoi, Rhea Jha, Tvesa Malik, Nishtha Madan, Abhinav Lohan, Sunhit Bishnoi, Kartik Sharma, Kshitij Kaul, Karan Pratap Singh, Heena Kang, Lavanya Jadon, Rohit Narwal, Tushar Pannu, and Prarthana Khanna.

Despite facing unforeseen challenges, including the withdrawal of Nishtha Madan, Tvesa Malik, and Diksha Dagar before the commencement of the tournament, as well as Sunhit Bishnoi’s withdrawal after the first round due to medical reasons, Team Haryana showcased remarkable resilience.

The Men’s Team, represented by Karan Pratap Singh and Tushar Pannu, secured the 8th position overall. Kartik Sharma shone in the Men’s Individual Event, clinching a well-deserved bronze medal, while last year’s silver medalist, Abhinav Lohan, finished commendably at the 5th position.

In the women’s category, Vani Kapoor and Prarthana Khanna formed a formidable team, securing a silver medal in the women’s team event. Vani Kapoor continued her individual success, claiming a bronze medal in the women’s individual event, while Gaurika Bishnoi displayed her prowess, finishing at the 5th position. Lavanya Jadon added a touch of magic to the tournament with a hole-in-one at the 12th hole on the first day of the event. Her extraordinatry feat earned her  recognition from the National Games Committee, receiving a certificate and a medal for this remarkable achievement.

Haryana emerged as the leading state in golf, amassing the highest number of medals, leaving behind strong contenders like Karnataka and Punjab, each with two medals in the Golf Event. Notably, Haryana also secured the third position overall in the medal tally, boasting a total of 192 medals.

Team Haryana’s outstanding performance not only cements its status as a golfing powerhouse but also underscores the state’s commitment to nurturing and showcasing exceptional talent on the national stage. The 37th National Games will be remembered as a glorious chapter in Haryana’s sporting history, celebrating the triumphs and resilience of its golfing elite.
